Buzz out to Heidrun Meadery in Point Reyes
We love sharing our own personal favorites with you, and Heidrun Meadery just outside of Point Reyes Station in West Marin definitely qualifies as a favorite. The people are wonderful. The grounds are idyllic. And the sparkling mead is a beautiful product of nature, science, and the artful hand of the mead-maker Gordon Hull.
You've heard of farm to fork. At Heidrun Meadery it's flower to flute, thanks to the journey of the bees and their product, honey. The sparkling part comes from using the traditional French Méthode Champenoise. We don't tell the story nearly as well as the staff at Heidrun does! Schedule a tour to learn about how magical mead is made. Or, head straight to the tasting room - located in a charming greenhouse - to sample a few or all of the varietals.
If you can, plan your visit during one of their events (check out their Instagram for event info). We've been to their oyster BBQs - that is an experience that makes us feel lucky to live in Marin. Surrounded by the natural gardens across the 16 acre property, the layered hills of West Marin, and the scents of the eucalyptus trees... it's a real Marin moment out there. Aside from events, try for weekdays to avoid the weekend crowds.
And of course we're going to mention picnicking! We suggest shopping for provisions at Tomales Bay Foods in Pt. Reyes Station and pairing your meal with your favorite mead.
Cheers, we hope you have a wonderful visit to Heidrun Meadery!
