Travel Guide: Explore The Presidio of San Francisco
The Presidio of San Francisco — on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge from Marin County — is the most unique National Park in the country. How lucky are we to have this national treasure a few minutes from Marin Hotels?
The video is great intro to The Presidio, but to go deep, you’re going to want to visit the excellent Presidio of San Francisco site. It’s comprehensive, so we’ve curated a (highly subjective) must-do list for you. It’s a mix of grand views and quiet moments plus some history side-by-side with thoroughly modern activities.
Batteries To Bluffs Trail. This short trail — 1.5 miles round trip — is all about the views of the wild Western edge of San Francisco. For a longer hike connect with the California Coastal trail.
Andy Goldsworthy’s Woodline. In a grove of fragrant eucalyptus trees, this natural art piece invites reflection.
Baker Beach. This beach has the amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge, windswept cypress groves, a stretch of wild Pacific Ocean, and views to the Marin Headlands. Prepare to be WOWED.
Presidio Picnic. Perfect for when you want to mix it up with the locals. Order food from San Francisco’s best food trucks and grab a spot of lawn to experience San Francisco’s largest picnic.
Arguello for Happy Hour. This is a two-for-one destination because Arguello is located in The Presidio Officers Club. Experience an historical immersion in the permanent exhibition, followed by a Margarita. There you have it: Presidio old and new.
