Marin County Travel Guide: Our 5 Favorite Nature Destinations
When you’re staying at one of our Marin Hotels, you are located in the heart of some of the most glorious natural landscapes on the planet. No exaggeration! What’s the best way to experience Marin’s abundance? Let’s start with a top 5:
Muir Woods. One of the crown jewels of the National Park system is also our next-door neighbor, located about 20-ish minutes from the each of our hotels. Early riser? Consider participating in a Sunrise Tour of Muir Woods this weekend. No matter when you go, be sure to make reservations.
Muir Beach Overlook. Marin County has lots of places where you truly feel your spot on the edge of the continent. This is one of our favorites. Pair it with your visit to Muir Woods to experience both the fragrant Redwood forest and the expansive, wild Pacific.
Stinson Beach. A classic Northern California beach, it’s wide and surrounded by cliffs, hills, and dunes. During the winter, especially after a storm, there’s an untamed feel to the beach. Perfect for a long flat walk. All of the information on getting there etc, is in the link. (Pro Tip:use the restrooms near the parking lot first, they are the only facilities on the beach).
Marin Headlands. Breathe in. Deeply. Now let it go. That's how it feels to be in the Marin Headlands. The Headlands is a vast area, so we’re going to narrow it down for you to two of our favorite things:
Coastal Trail Loop. Park at the Rodeo Beach lot and head towards the Coastal Trail to Tennessee Point for an easy 1.5 mile loop with stunning views of the ocean and dramatic rocky coastline.
Point Bonita Light House. This spot is called “The World’s End”. You’ll see why when you walk to the lighthouse via a suspension bridge. Open Sundays and Mondays 12:30-3:30.
Marin Waterfalls. The rain has come to Marin County this year and that means it’s waterfall season! In that link you’ll find our three favorite falls. The first two are short drives (or a walk in one case!) from our three Marin Hotels, and are easily accessible trails frequented by locals. The third one has lots of WOW appeal, and the drive to the trailhead is loaded with classic Marin County beauty. And since there is no better combination than a hike and a meal, we selected these three waterfall hikes for their proximity to excellent, fun, casual local restaurants.
Okay technically that’s more like a Top 10. Maybe you need to stay a few more days!
See you out there!
