Relaxing In Marin County: In Praise of Doing Nothing
Okay maybe this seems counterintuitive since our blog is all about the best things to do in Marin. So yes, go out and do many of those things. But also Marin Hotels guests: plan some downtime in the hotel. As well-situated as each of our hotels are — close to Muir Woods, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco — they are also really choice spots to just hang out.
Of course, your guestroom is a primo place to hang. With plush beds, local bath products, spa robes, big flat screen TVs, free wifi, and yoga mats, you could nest all day long. When you’re ready to wander out, consider our favorite spots in each property.
Waters Edge Hotel
First, there’s the Grand View Deck with a full view of Angel Island, the San Francisco Bay, and the San Francisco skyline. Have coffee out there in the morning, take a book (or a nap) out there in the afternoon, enjoy a glass of wine in the evening around the fire. If you’d prefer your own private deck, consider one of the Grand King Suites.
Also consider the cozy lobby. Complimentary coffee and tea can be enjoyed around the fireplace, and the evening wine reception is set up in the lobby.
While the Grand View Deck gets most of the attention, if you want to watch the small town goings-on in Tiburon, there’s seating at the front of Waters Edge Hotel right on Main Street.
And of course you know to plan some relaxation time in the morning, right? Complimentary breakfast is delivered each morning of your stay. Breakfast in bed. Even just writing those words relaxes us! Go extra and light up that fireplace. Breakfast in bed with a warm fire.
Acqua Hotel
Let’s talk about this lobby. We love it when guests arrive and walk directly to the wall of glass to take in the view of the Richardson Bay. You’ll want to do the same. Maybe during our complimentary evening wine reception.
We also need to talk about the glassed-in atrium: views of Richardson Bay and Mt. Tam, fire features, comfortable seating. A great spot for your wine and cheese in the evening or your complimentary breakfast in the morning.
While we’re on the topic of breakfast: the breakfast at Acqua Hotel is much-loved by our guests. Expect a full cooked breakfast buffet and coffee bar. High quality fruits, baked goods, sausages, bacon, frittata, eggs and more. What a treat!
Not to be overlooked is the lawn, a great spot to sit and watch the bay or do a little yoga session. Sitting on the lawn not your thing? There are also tables and chairs on the shared patio, and ground floor rooms have their own patios.
p.s. if you’d like to add a fireplace to add to your relaxation, be sure to book a top-floor Junior Fireplace Suite.
Mill Valley Inn
The dwellings at Mill Valley Inn are situated in a natural setting, with Redwood trees dotted around and a creek meandering through the grounds. Our Sun View Terrace is a lovely spot to take all of this in. Perhaps enjoy breakfast and evening wine and cheese here. Breathe deep, that is full-on nature in the air.
Well you know we're going to say that we serve complimentary breakfast at Mill Valley Inn. The buffet includes waffles, bagels and lox with all the trimmings, steel-cut oatmeal with toppings, cold cereal, organic yogurt, fresh pastries and bread, coffee bar, and fresh fruit. Relax and enjoy all of it!
Most of the guest rooms at Mill Valley Inn have outdoor access with a french doors and Juliet Balconies in the Main Building and oversized windows and a shared verandah in the historic Creek House. Enjoy the peaceful setting by opening your doors and windows and letting the forest breeze drift in.
Looking for the ultimate indoor-outdoor experience? Book the Penthouse Suite, where you’ll relax on a treetop deck that runs the length of the Penthouse Suite, with three separate sitting areas.
If you’d like to add a fireplace to add to your relaxation, be sure to book a Balcony King, Balcony Queen, or one of the two freestanding Cottages.
Enjoy your stay!
