Live music has always been a part of the entertainment landscape in Marin County, with a long-standing history of famous and soon-to-be-famous musicians recording and performing in Marin for the past 60 years. We’ve seen lots of our readers hitting an older post about Live Music in Marin, it’s time for an update! Read on for a mid-2022 update of locations to catch a show.
Live Music in Marin: Local’s Favorite
Plan your entire evening around excellent food and world-class music at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley. This is a local’s favorite laid-back downtown Mill Valley spot, and equally people from all over the Bay Area come to soak up the vibe. Low Key and Laid Back Marin Music Venues
And then there are a few fun spots that feature super-local talent, perfect for a low key music and dining experience.
In Mill Valley, we like The Junction Beer Garden and Battleshop. Order of some amazing pizza and enjoy the music in the vast outdoor space.
In Fairfax, the newly-opened Mac’s at 19 Broadway has something happening nearly every night of the week in their sweet new speakeasy style cocktail lounge. Also in Fairfax, check out Way Station for beer, bbq, a fun crowd, and always great musicians.
In Sausalito, at the far southern edge, with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge to go with your tunes, check out the music calendar at Travis Marina Bar.
In San Rafael, Pond Farm Brewing has music most Saturday afternoons along with fresh beer and tasty food. A fun local crowd completes the scene.
Music Off The Beaten Track in Marin
In Novato, the Northern-most town in Marin, you’ll find Hopmonk Tavern located in a large shopping complex. Good fun!
Rancho Nicasio located in the tiny unspoiled town of Nicasio in the rolling hills of West Marin has been going strong for 20 years. The drive is beautiful, the setting idyllic; make a day of it!
Music in Marin Neighborhoods
In addition to traditional venues for music, you’ll find music all summer long in the neighborhoods, at the market, and in the streets. Here are some of our favorites.
Marin’s Farmer’s Markets n.b. one of our faves is the summer market in Fairfax on Wednesdays 4-8pm with music in the Redwood grove and some excellent food. Year round, check out the San Rafael Sunday Farmers Market.
Weekend outdoor music events like Corte Madera’s Summer Concerts on Sundays and Sausalito’s Jazz and Blues by the Bay.
Street Parties like the San Anselmo Live on the Avenue, with strolling, dining, shopping, and live music in the heart of town on Fridays and Saturdays through October.
