A Local Filmmaker Brings Marin County’s Beauty to Life

A Local Filmmaker Brings Marin County’s Beauty to Life

In last week’s post talked about the land in Marin County being 80% protected open space and farmland. A big part of that open space is Mt. Tamalpais State Park. The silhouette of Mt. Tam is a defining feature of Marin County — in fact you see it in full view from Acqua Hotel — our skyline if you will.

The below video will give you a a sense of the vast unspoiled natural beauty of Mt. Tam, from the perspective of a Fire Lookout. The beauty really kicks in 3:35 when the sun sets (we tear up every single time).

Gary Yost, the local filmmaker who created this amazing video, said this about the experience:

“The video documents the (usually) very peaceful life of a fire lookout in the Gardner Lookout on the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, California. I've been a Marin County Fire Department volunteer lookout for years and deeply love the mountain and the peace it brings to us here in the Bay Area. Perhaps this 6-minute video will convey some of the emotions I feel when sitting (and sleeping) on her peak.”

Gary has created other award-winning films about Mt. Tam. Watch to get yourself in the mood for some deep exploration during your visit to Marin.

See you out there!
