Let's Go To Stinson Beach in Marin County California!
Whether you are looking for a good long flat walk in Marin or something more adventurous like surfing, head out to Stinson Beach because there is something at this spectacular spot for all nature-lovers, ocean-enthusiasts, peace-seekers, and picnickers. Read on for ideas and inspiration for your day at the beach!
How To Get To Stinson Beach
From our Marin Hotels, plan on a 30-40 minute drive. You have a couple of choices on routes: Highway 1 or Panoramic Highway. Highway 1 is famous for its beauty and almost any section of the road counts as one of the most scenic drives in the country. It is also twisty. And there are several spots on the road that have that “sheer drop to the ocean feeling”. Is it safe? Yes. But, if you’re the type who gets a little nervous behind the wheel, we suggest taking Panoramic. Still absolutely beautiful!
Best Time To Go To Stinson Beach
If you’re planning to go on a weekend, go early to secure parking in the beach lot. During the week, you’ll have no problem getting parking. One thing about going early in the summer: there may be cool fog but it usually pulls back mid-morning for a sunny and 70ish degree day. The Marin County summer rule: bring layers.
Oh btw, parking is free.
What To Do at Stinson Beach
The most obvious thing to do is to set up for the day and just enjoy being outside at this beautiful crescent beach with the vast Pacific Ocean in front of you and the coastal cliffs all around you.
If you’re feeling active, take a surf lesson at 2 Mile Surf Shop or walk the entire length of the beach (this usually takes around two hours round-trip) and peep the unique beachside homes.
Note: the facilities are located near the parking areas, so go before you head out on on your surf or walk, as there are no other facilities.
Where to Eat at Stinson Beach
There are several restaurants in the small town of Stinson. You can easily walk to all of them and decide what speaks to you on the spot. There’s Stinson Beach Market and Stinson Beach Bodega for those of you who want to get some picnic supplies before you settle in for the day. NB: Stinson Beach Bodega also offers casual dining at their outdoor area, in a good people-watching spot in town. Those tacos in that photo above are a specialty of Stinson Beach Bodega, perfect beach food!
And Another Thing!
If you’re taking Highway 1, consider a stop at Muir Beach Overlook on the way home. The views of the coastline and ocean are spectacular.
See you out there!
