Best Flat Hikes in Marin: Let's Go Over The Golden Gate Bridge!
Our series of posts recommending the Best Flat Hikes in Marin is a favorite with our Marin Hotels guests, Bay Area hikers, nature enthusiasts, and lovers of a low-exertion outing. Note this: all of our Marin Best Flat Hikes are consolidated in that link in our Marin County Travel Guides section of the blog.
We’re going to add a new flat hike today, and we are veering off of the Marin County path to do so. We’re going over the Golden Gate Bridge in fact, to Crissy Field in San Francisco. Okay, okay, it doesn’t fit our Marin Flat Hike criteria perfectly but it is such a spectacular flat trail we feel compelled to share with you.
Getting to Crissy Field From Marin
Crissy Field is so close to Marin! Only 14 minutes from Acqua Hotel, 21 minutes from Mill Valley Inn, and 25 minutes from Waters Edge Hotel.. Set your destination to East Beach in San Francisco and you’re on your way. There’s plenty of free parking, and facilities are near the parking. And a beach! And a flat trail! And those views of the San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the hills of Marin! And in the summertime, the natural air-conditioning of the fog. Basically a no-sweat walk. In fact, bring a jacket.
The Trail at Crissy Field
From East Beach you can walk on the Crissy Field Promenade Trail to Fort Point at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, just over 3 miles and just over an hour round trip. That’s if you don’t stop and enjoy the scenery, have a snack at the Warming Hut, tour Fort Point, walk out on the pier, capture some amazing photos, and pet a couple of dogs (so many dogs). You’ll want to do all of those things! Links to all below…
Pro Tip: We like to walk the flat trail on the way to the bridge and then cut over and walk the beach on the way back.
Things To Do at Crissy Field
Here’s a link round-up of a few things of note along the path:
The Warming Hut where you can purchase a bevvie, a snack, and Crissy Field gifts.
Torpedo Pier where you will experience unmatched views!
Fort Point walk to the top for really spectacular close up views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
See you out there!
